Are certain foods really toxic to your dog? If you have a pet that loves chocolate, you may not want to believe that it can be dangerous to let him indulge in his favorite treat. Chocolate contains a chemical that is a cardiac stimulant which causes the dog’s heartbeat to be elevated or irregular.
Not everybody believes this to be true, but their dogs may have survived by sheer luck. The dosage can make the difference. If you really want to indulge your dog’s sweet tooth, then get out your favorite treat recipe and substitute carob for the flavorful ingredient listed. Carob is completely dog safe and tastes almost identical to the real thing.
It’s no wonder dog owners are so confused about what to feed their beloved pets these days. It used to be that the dog got whatever was left when we finished our meals. Then experts determined that it wasn’t healthy to feed a dog table scraps, that only the professionally formulated (not to mention expensive) pet foods would give your dog all the nutrients he needed to stay healthy.
Now we seem to have come full circle, so to speak. Available for the conscientious pet owner are feeds that contain “human-grade” meat. Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t the table scraps all “human-grade”? There comes a point when you have to stop and ask yourself “Does this make sense to anybody except the guy selling the dog food?”
